Chris Okibi is an innovative and unconventional producer, live performance artist and DJ. Brought up in the eclectic drum & bass, hardcore punk and hip-hop sub-cultures of the Pacific Northwest, Okibi has firmly established himself in the growing bass music scene, sharing the stage with artists such as Kode9, Grenier, Alix Perez, 12th Planet and Distal.
Okibi brings a diverse selection of styles to every live performance, from forward-thinking footwork, house and hip-hop, to rolling liquid riddims, dubwise exclusives and grimy street anthems. Steeped in the hip-hop tradition, Okibi utilizes scratching and turntablism techniques, effects and MIDI controllers in the mix, creating a unique and eclectic soundscape.
Okibi’s left-field productions continue to push the envelope within the evolving bass music scene. Spearheading his own unique, bass-heavy clubgaze sound, Okibi draws influences from everything from gangster rap to black metal. Described as “dramatic” and “chilling”, Okibi’s sound throws the listener into an auditory abyss.
As co-founder of Union Sound System, Okibi supports a steadily growing network of avant-garde musicians, artists, techs and promoters. Involved in a number of projects, including the live p.a. electro-punk stylings of AUTOMATON, Okibi stays true to old-school roots while pioneering future vibes.
